This lecture seeks to disentangle the ideological underpinnings of Greta Gerwig’s film Barbie (2023). It will look at the traditional meaning-making elements that the medium film has at its disposal, but also pay particular attention to the various metaleptic jumps, i.e., transmigrations between different narrative levels, to discuss the film in relation to postmodernism and post-postmodernism.
