Named after the Liverpool heroine Kitty Wilkinson, an Irish migrant who started the first wash- and bathhouses and as such initiated the workers-led public health movement in Liverpool in 1830, Kitty's Launderette is an award-winning community business that offers good quality jobs and tackles social challenges such as hygiene and fuel poverty, financial hardship and social isolation. Grace will tell the story of how they built a sustainable business in community and workers ownership, about what that has done for the local economy and well-being in a neighbourhood that experiences a lot of challenges and of course all the fun things that can happen in a social launderette space.
