One year after the end of the Civil War, Madison Hemings, son of Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings, and Israel Jefferson, formerly enslaved footman, return to Monticello, their birthplace. Actors Stephen Buhler, recently retired Aaron Douglas Professor of English at UNL, and Bill Bryant will portray these individuals as they wrestle with the question of what to keep as they move through the world and what to leave behind. The play has been produced off-Broadway and at regional theaters across the U.S. Light Ray Productions is offering free admission, but donations are suggested and welcome.
