The model of a universal, free-at-the-point-of-use NHS works. This ‘NHS for all’, publicly owned, provided, and accountable, has frequently been ranked one of the best health care systems in the world. It is not the model that is broken, it is governments that have failed the NHS – and the population they are there to serve.The NHS founding principles were sound, but the steady privatisation and defunding of our NHS led to its worst crisis and worst performance in its history. We must change course before the service collapses completely. We need to fill the vacancies and pay health workers properly. We need to oppose the erosion of our public services in favour of the profit motive. We must restore the People’s NHS!
Our speakers will discuss Labour's 10-year plan for the NHS, which will increase private-sector involvement in the health service, and the future of the West Midlands ambulance service, due to be put out to tender during the year.
