RSVP to participate in a volunteer event from 9am-1pm on Saturday, September 28, removing small conifers and invasive weeds to retore oak woodlands in the Weaverville Community Forest! Along the West Weaver Creek Trail there are oak dominated stands with some encroaching conifers. Volunteers are asked to help cut and pile encroaching conifers in oak dominant stands and pull and remove invasive weeds it designated locations. These conifers can easily be cut using loppers and 5-10 years it will require more chainsaws. This event will require hiking at least 1 mile on uneven terrain. Participants under 18 are welcome with a parent or guardian.
Volunteers should wear closed toe shoes, long pants, and
long-sleeve shirts, and bring water. Gloves, tools, and eye protection will be provided. Volunteers should meet at the Mill Street trailhead of the West Weaver Creek Trail (https://maps.app.goo.gl/zs8EyuzKGF1cgBNaA) by 9 a.m.
We will be hiking in to the work sites, so please be timely.
