HARRIS COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT'S H.O.P.E CENTER CELEBRATES 5-YEAR ANNIVERSARY: A FREE DAY OF COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENTThe Harris County School District's H.O.P.E Center is delighted to announce its “5-Year Anniversary Celebration,” marking half a decade of serving students, families, and the community. The event, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, April 20, 2024, promises a day filled with fun activities, resources, and camaraderie for all attendees.
To offer additional support to students, families, and the community, the Harris County School District established the H.O.P.E Center, which stands for ‘Helping Our People Excel.” Launched in February 2019, the center has since become a vital hub of resources for students and parents coupled with community engagement and empowerment. The Center grew from a similar concept at Harris County High School (HCHS) called the H.O.P.E. Closest. Today, the Center provides office space for the departments of social services and academic support, a food pantry, clothing bank, meeting space, and more. Its location provides a more private location for sensitive personal matters to be addressed.
During the five years of operation, the Center has provided invaluable and meaningful assistance to students and their families including clothes, food, school supplies, personal hygiene items, free prom attire, counseling support, and resources for parents, grandparents, and caregivers about online safety, financial literacy, and more via the Parent University program.
"We are overjoyed to commemorate five years of service to the Harris County community," said HCSD's Coordinator of Social Services, Vicki Williams-Curry. "In the spirit of our mission, the 5-Year Anniversary Celebration will be a free event open to the public, offering a day of fun activities, resources, food, and connections for everyone."
Families can look forward to a variety of engaging activities, including face painting, raffles, carnival games, and Yo-Man Inflatables. Moreover, organizations such as New Horizons, Mercer Med, the Pastoral Institute, Family Connections, and The Lighthouse for Families will be on hand to provide valuable resources and support. There will also be an opportunity for families to enroll into the HCSD’s School-based Telehealth program, which is available for all students and employees.
“The H.O.P.E. Center is the first in the Chattahoochee region to provide multi-disciplinary assistance and services to students and families,” stated Shelia Baker, HCSD assistant superintendent of support services. “Our mission is to offer wraparound services for students, their families, and the community. Since its opening, we have implemented several other resource-driven programs and projects to support Harris County families beyond the brick-and-mortar school district buildings. We are thrilled to be celebrating five years of successful partnerships and relationships with our schools and the community.”
The celebration is made possible through partnerships with Creekside Jr. Beta Club, HCHS Beta Club, New Mountain Hill Elementary’s Hilltop Harvest Community Garden, Amerigroup, and the Youman Family, all of whom share a commitment to supporting the Harris County community.
The public is invited to join in the festivities at the HCSD H.O.P.E Center, located at 106 Mountain Creek Drive in Hamilton, Ga. The event is free of charge and open to all members of the community.
