This is your chance to voice your support for the secondary street sign honoring Rev. Dr. Watson. You can share why she deserves this recognition, and the committee will recommend their top five candidates for a vote by the full City Council. Note: The Chair typically allows for 30 seconds to two minutes for comments.
This is the public’s opportunity to say why Rev. Dr. JoAnn Nichols Watson should be honored with a Secondary Street Sign (near her beloved alma mater, Central High School).
City Council Vote
🗓 Tuesday, October 28, 2025
💬 Public Comment Time (Start of Formal Meeting)
This is your coveted opportunity to voice support as City Council discusses the applications and makes their decision.
How You Can Support:
Attend the public hearing on October 23 in person or online.
Provide public comment on October 23 @ 10 AM.
Spread the word to other community members and show your support!
Important Notes:
Only 5 applicants will be selected for a secondary street sign in 2025.
All remaining applications will automatically roll over to the 2026 cycle.
Public comments at both the hearing and the vote are vital for the selection process.
Let’s come together to honor a legendary leader who helped “Wake Up” Detroit’s community and uplifted the people of Detroit and the African Diaspora, by serving as an uncompromising voice of our people as an elected official.
Thank you for your support, in advance.
✨ Sending love and light to all! ✨
