TICKETED, BOOKING REQUIRED Melbourne Design Week 2024
A uniquely diverse range of public architecture exists in the City of Melbourne, ranging from contemporary developments, heritage fabric and public spaces.
Melbourne’s public architecture is in constant negotiation between the inherited fabric of a city and its value, and the demands of contemporary society.
Join the Australian Institute of Architects’ Emerging Architects and Graduate Network (EmAGN) for an informative and critical walking tour through one of Melbourne’s most important publicly accessible precincts: the Queen Victoria Market and surrounds.
Hear from architects and designers that have helped to shape the future of this precinct. An introductory talk will frame the walking tour before embarking on a targeted tour of completed and future projects around the QVM precinct.
The event will visit the recently completed narrm ngarrgu Library with architects from Six Degrees, hear from architects NH Architecture about their refurbishment works and future vision, and be guided by representatives from the City of Melbourne’s QVM Precinct Renewal department.
This walking tour showcases exemplary architectural works that successfully balance complex ingredients to produce a variety of public experiences that are both shared and individual.
Each example visited investigates how architecture, through built form and through shared experience, define our cities and enable our collective right to the city.
