Pua Revisited
This will be a ride to Pua to ride the roads less frequently visited. It will be 3 nights in Pua and an overnight stop in Phayao on the way back making the total, 4 nights and 5 days. The ride to Pua as before will be via Lampang and Denchai. I will be as comprehensive as possible as I know how you love reading the instructions!
I will try and get some GPX files ready for each day.
As before the meeting place will be the PTT station just the other side of the flyover in Lumphun in position 18.570815933745084, 99.04454079304378. A BYD dealership is nearly opposite.
If you have any suggestion or ideas please make them known well beforehand so they can be incorporated. Please don’t try and make any last minute changes.
As usual, if you want to blitz a part of the ride then feel free to overtake but please leave plenty of room for those you are overtaking. Perhaps even a short beep on the horn.
To avoid losing anyone please look after the rider in your mirror. If you lose sight of them then stop, the ride in front will do the same.
Accommodation. Last time we stayed at the Oopkaew Resort. This place was ok but it is a hike to a restaurant. So…. I would like to propose the Chomphoophukha Resort. https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZPQ4TRzZD21XxZEeA
For no other reason than it is right next door to that restaurant! Unfortunately none of the sites like Agoda have any information on this resort so it might need a phone call or a change of venue. Kevin and myself are booked in there 556B for a standard without breakfast and for those posh riders 1000B.
In Phayao we will use the Hop inn in preferance to the Cozy Nest.
Day 1
Meet at the PTT in Lumphun 18.570815933745084, 99.04454079304378 just the other side of the flyover. If anyone gets left behind, loses the group on this stretch then continue on, do not turn off anywhere. Meet up at the Lomyen restaurant as we will be there a little while.
After 159km Stay on the 11 over the flyover in Lampang and all the way to the traffic
lights at Denchai.
After 14km Fuelling stop at a PTT. 18.037494, 100.11061 Right next door the other side
is Lomyen@Phrae a nice little restaurant.
After 187km Fuelling stop at a Bangchak in Pua
After 2.5 km T The first U turn we come to. U turn for about 170m then turn left into the
resort.
Total 362km
Day 2
From the Resort turn left (youll be in trouble if you do anything different!)
After 280m Make a U turn.
After 1.3km Keep right and Make a U turn.
After 550M Turn left onto the 1081 (Keep an eye out on the right to see if the PTT is open
After 32km Arrive the I love ‘U’ shaped curve. We can park up off the road here on the
left. There is a view and roadside drink vendors.
After 5.5km Arrive at the ‘S’ Curves car park
After 8.65km Arrive at Km48 viewpoint on the left.
After 4.3km Arrive at 53 Coffee View on the left easy off road parking After 11km Arrive at the Goran Road. The Famous Tortuous Road. Best tp stop on the right, the car park is on an angle and I had difficulties there last time
After 4km Arrive at the 1081 / 1333 junction in Bo Kleua. There are limited restaurants for the rest of the ride so might I suggest we use the same restaurant as last time, it is only slightly out of our way. Turn left at the junction.

Turn left back the way we have just come to the 1081 / 1333 junction
After 44km Turn left onto the 1257.
If we decide on Option B we will turn right at this junction to take us back to the 1081 early and ride the S bends in the opposite direction

After 43km There is a scenic area but no off road parking. After 14km Arrive at a T junction with the 1225.
After 3.5km Arrive at the 1169 junction. Go straight on which joins the 1169 PT & PTT fuel stations are within a couple of hundred meters on the right.
After 8km Turn left onto the 1081 After 26km Arrive in Pua at the 101 junction
After 482m Turn left into the resort.

Day 3
From the Resort turn left (youll be in trouble if you do anything different!)
After 100m Arrive at a Shell fuel station. After 200M Make a U turn.
After 1.3km Keep right and Make a U turn.
After 550M Turn left onto the 1081
After 237M Turn left onto the 1256
After 33km Turn right into the 1715 viewpoint. Stop for refreshments
After 13km Turn left onto the 1081
After 26km There is a viewpoint as such on the right of rice terraces. It looks like there is an off road pull in but it looks gravel and on an angle BUT
After 188M Stop at Mananum Restaurant on the right. Their car park is dirt but it looks smooth and flat. AND it probably gives a better view of the rice terraces. 19.34785419370196, 101.15898743158684
After 16Km Arrive at a particularly scenic part of the road. Pity there is no off road parking!
After 39km Go straight on and join Route 101
After 43km Fuel station, Bangchak on the left hand side.

After 53M Right next door the other side is a Cafe Amazon. Park on the roadside To top the tanks off ready for the next day at a PTT (This was closed last time)
After 28km Turn left onto the 1081 After 234M Make a U turn
After 134M Turn into the PTT After 600M Turn left out of the PTT and turn left onto the 101 and arrive at the resort

Day 4
Out of the resort and into the Shell next door to fill the tanks.
After 16km Make a U turn

After 4km Turn left onto the 1202
After 18km Arrive at a PT station on the left. Last chance before Phayao
After 2km Arrive at route 1 junction. Go straight ahead. After 360m Arrive at a roundabout. Take 2nd exit, straight ahead
After 800m Arrive at a Roundabout. Take the 1st exit, 10 o’Clock position
After 600m Turn left onto Thakwan Road
After 60M Turn right into Hop Inn car park
Total about 188km
Day 5
Return to Chiang Mai. Route 1, hang a right onto the 120. Stop at iOzone, just before the 118 on the left for refreshments. Hang a left onto the 118. Return to CNX is about 164km.
Total for the trip is about 1329km
N.B. For day 2 I have put forward an option that at the end of the 1333 wr could cut back onto the 1081 earlier than planned at via point 10 on the map to ride the S Curves again but in the opposite direction. I am easy so thats up to the group to decide.
