Pt 3: Linguistics and Flow with Nathan ShelbyIn the third instalment of the VCM's 3 part workshop series “Mechanics of a rap flow” we will break rap down into it's most basic components by diving into the topic of linguistics. Since rap is verbal percussion, we can look at the individual sounds that the human mouth creates as our notes. In this class we will take a deeper look at the different classes of sounds and how a rapper will use them to create desired effects in rap verses.
Although all 3 workshops are available to be attended individually, they are designed to be experienced in sequence for the most complete overview of the inner mechanics of rap flows!
This workshop will run Monday February 24th starting at 7pm, with the first portion for our theory topic, followed by a Q&A, and we will finish the evening with a live rap freestyle cypher session! The cypher is open to all ages and skill levels but not required!
Explicit lyrics may be used in musical examples. Participant/parental discretion is advised.
