Program Overview:
Social work is embodied and relational. This interactive 2-hour psychosocial Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT) workshop invites social workers, students, faculty, staff, and community members of all mobility levels to explore how the psychotherapeutic use of movement strengthens emotional, cognitive, physical, and social integration while promoting holistic healing.
Grounded in trauma-informed and strengths-based practice, participants will engage in guided, ability-responsive movement experiences to explore how the body, mind, and spirit hold story—and how embodied awareness can deepen practice across clinical, community, and policy settings.
No dance experience required — only curiosity and willingness to move.
What You'll Gain:
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Understand Dance/Movement Therapy as a narrative, somatic, relational, and creative arts psychotherapy modality.
- Translate psychological theories into embodied, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive practice.
- Recognize how body–mind–spirit patterns reveal trauma responses, relational dynamics, and resilience.
- Adapt movement-based approaches across physical, cognitive, and age-related differences.
- Practice at least two embodied interventions to support grounding, co-regulation, stress reduction, therapeutic presence, and healing.
- Articulate the broader social, cognitive, physical, and economic impact of movement-based work.
- Identify practical strategies to integrate DMT into professional practice and personal self-care.
