About this Event

Psychological First Aid

Psychological First Aid is a simple, yet powerful way of helping someone in distress, so they feel calm and supported in coping with their challenges, whether it’s personal, work related or affects the whole community.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will:

  • Understand what Psychological First Aid is and isn't.
  • Become familiar with distress reactions - what can cause distress, what factors can influence the different ways people respond and recover from distress, and how distress differs from stress and mental illness
  • Have tools to manage our own wellbeing whilst supporting someone in distress
  • Provide PFA using ‘The Five Elements’ and the action principles:

Look: Know some of the warning signs.

Listen: How to check in, listen and respond.

Link: Connect the person and/or yourself to the right support.

  • What to do if we have concerns about the immediate safety and wellbeing of someone
  • Practice providing Psychological First Aid.
