Using the breath to reach expanded states of consciousness is not a new concept, many ancient cultures see the breath as a connection to spirit, god or life energy. The breath is with us every moment of our lives and most of the time we do not place our attention on it, yet when we harness its power through intentional use it can have a powerful and profound effect.
In this 3-hour immersive workshop you will be safely guided into a deeply embodied conscious, connected breathwork session, from this grounded place you can access different physical and emotional states. This workshop can also be a helpful opening if you are preparing for a psychedelic retreat or as a safe, accessible alternative.
Breathwork is seeing a revival due to its transformational potential, safety, and simplicity. In Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy we understand that the 'set & setting' is an essential part of the therapeutic nature of expanded states. In this workshop you will be given preparation practices plus access to a free online integration circle. There is also the opportunity to attend free ongoing monthly integration circles, a place to stay connected to any insights or meaning gathered in the workshops.
This is a breathwork workshop, we will not be working with psychedelic substances. The word 'psychedelic' literally means 'mind revealing' and this is what we are exploring.
You will need to complete a short health questionnaire to attend this event.
I am working in collaboration with Brighton Psychedelics, we promote integration of psychedelic experiences into everyday life in a way that is helpful and meaningful to the individual. There are in-person integration circles every 6 weeks in Brighton. I highly recommend these spaces, to find out more visit https://www.brightonpsychedelics.com
But what kind of breathwork is this?
The resurgence of breathwork in the west started with Stan Grof, a psychiatrist who held over 4500 therapeutic LSD sessions with patients in clinical research settings, and his wife Christina. They developed Holotropic Breathwork as a response to the ban of psychedlic substances and all research in the 1970's as a way to reach expanded states of consciousness, without the substances. Since then many breathwork modalities have taken the world by storm.
In this session we will be engaging with a popular method called Conscious, Connected Breathwork (CCB). A simple technique that helps us to focus on the breath and body and allow our thinking minds to take a break. We breathe through an open mouth generally, unless there are health reasons to adapt the breath, music will be used as a carrier wave through the session and you will be encouraged to listen to your body.
These workshops are greatly informed by some incredible experiences with various breathwork modalities including Holotropic Breathwork and my training and work as a Integrative Breathwork Facilitator and a Psychedelic-Asssited Therapist.

Jo Woods
I am a psychotherapist in Brighton, and in my private practice I offer preparation and integration therapy for people interested in psychedelic or breathwork experiences. I have experience in sitting for 1:1 Holotropic Breathwork sessions and facilitating group psychedelic retreats.
I have a long-term interest in the healing potential of expanded states of consciousness, whether achieved through breathwork, psychedelics, meditation, or occurring spontaneously. The power of breathwork in a safely held group never ceases to amaze and impress me. People’s experiences can be transformative and restorative, and can also bring up strong and diverse emotions. My intention is to support you with whatever comes up for you by bringing my compassion, curiosity and groundedness.
