Carlos Ruiz Valle: Flora Psyche The Palm Beach Gallery is honoured to host Flora Psyche, the first solo exhibition by Malaga-based photographer Carlos Ruiz Valle. Presented as part of the ninth edition of the Photo Brussels Festival, this exhibition marks a milestone in the artist’s career. It showcases three evocative series that explore themes of identity, self-discovery, and gender fluidity.
Ruiz Valle’s photography draws deeply from his personal journey, exploring the complexities of the human psyche. His self-portraits with flowers juxtapose the fragile beauty of flora with the act of self-expression, creating a dynamic interplay of vulnerability and strength. In another series, the artist veils himself, prompting reflections on concealment, identity, and introspection. His portraits of flowers further develop these ideas, using nature as a metaphor for transformation and resilience.
Born in Peru and raised in Buenos Aires, Ruiz Valle’s multicultural background enriches his artistic vision with layers of narrative and symbolism. During the isolation of the Covid lockdown, he embarked on these series as a means of self-exploration, turning insecurities into striking visual compositions. What began as a private journey evolved into a meditation on universal themes of identity and belonging.
Blending technical precision with a painterly sensibility, Ruiz Valle’s work resonates with an emotive power that transcends the visual medium. Flora Psyche offers an intimate glimpse into the artist’s world, celebrating the enduring connections between nature, identity, and self-expression.
