About the Speaker
Prof. K. S. Viswanathan, is currently a Visiting Professor, Division of Sciences at Krea University, SriCity, and an Adjunct Faculty , Department of Chemistry, IIT Madras, Chennai. He earlier served as Professor, Department of Chemical Sciences, IISER, Mohali. He obtained his Ph. D. in Physical Chemistry from Vanderbilt University, USA.
His Research Interests are in Matrix isolation IR spectroscopy for the study of conformations, non-covalent interactions, reactions of high temperature species. Fluorescence spectroscopy of lanthanides and actinides. Laser induced breakdown spectroscopy, Glow Discharge Spectroscopy and Spectroanalytical methods. He is also interested in matters relating to Science Education in schools and universities.
About the Lecture
Constant research is the hallmark of science. But not all discoveries are products of preplanned experiments. Not infrequently, great discoveries result from chance events, some even from accidents in the laboratories. Good science often results from sharp observations even in the face of such accidents. In this talk, we will discuss the method of science and some interesting discoveries that have resulted from accidents, particularly in chemical and biological sciences. The importance of a “prepared mind” in the laboratory will be highlighted in this talk.
