Experience History Through Music.Relive the very first Independence Day celebration in the nation, organized by the Moravians! Psalm of Joy (Freudenpsalm) is an original ode (a service of word and music) from 1783 in Salem, NC, celebrating and giving thanks to God for peace in the land. The program will be led by the Moramus Chorale (sung in English), supported by the 1800 Tannenberg organ and a chamber orchestra, at the Old Salem Visitor Center, Saturday, June 29, 2024, 3:00pm. The ode was created by Moravian composer, Johann Friedrich Peter, who also composed the first string chamber music in America.
