Pruning Small Trees & Woody Shrubs
with Matt Reyna
ON-SITE | Saturday, February 22 | 10 am - 12 pm
Blue Ridge EcoGardener - Core Credit
Pruning small trees and woody shrubs in the landscape is a blend of good timing, proper techniques, and a creative eye. Late winter is a perfect time for pruning, while plants are dormant and approaching the cusp of next season’s burst of growth.
Pruning can be intimidating, but learning proper techniques instills further understanding of plant growth structure and habit, and the gardener’s role in maintaining plant health and aesthetics. Join us for a blend of presentation and hands-on workshop demonstrating proper pruning techniques.
Matt Reyna is an artist & gardener with over a decade of experience in public horticulture and non-profit administration. He has served a wide range of cultural institutions, including Longue Vue House & Gardens, Audubon Louisiana Nature Center, Biltmore Estate, and is currently an Adult Education Specialist at the North Carolina Arboretum. Matt was recognized as a 2023 Garden Scholar by the American Public Gardens Association.
