We are offering several new, unique walking tours with guides from the Providence Preservation Society, Greening the District, long-time residents and expert guides; all skilled at unraveling the many layers of Providence’s art, architecture, culture and history.
Join us for some fresh-air fun on one of our casually-paced walks through our capital city, and allow us to wrap America’s Renaissance City into a story package for you to take home!

Discover Providence Tours
Highlighting historical, nautical and architectural points of interest, parks, public spaces, colleges, theaters and streets throughout downtown Providence.

Bright Lights, Creative City: Providence's Arts & Entertainment History
Providence punches above its weight when it comes to progressive urban development, resulting in a vibrant riverfront and downtown. Over the last 60+ years, Providence has moved railroads, highways, and rivers to achieve the urban renaissance many American cities dream of -- but neighborhood erasure and displacement are often the dark side of urban growth and progress. Come explore some of the exceptional buildings that preservationists, politicians, and Providence’s own have worked so hard to reimagine, as well as some of the communities and streetscapes we sacrificed to make modern day Providence.
Duration: Approximately 90 minutes

Urban Renewal and the Making of Modern Providence
Providence comes by its reputation as the Creative Capital, with an arts and entertainment history that extends back hundreds of years. Today, this legacy is evident around almost every corner downtown, from historic theatres to music venues, community arts incubators, and old world hotels. This tour explores the city's early entertainment history and highlights the many ways creatives have reimagined historic spaces and kept the arts at the center of life in Providence.

Jewelry District Tours
Starting in the late eighteenth century, and spanning into the twentieth, Providence was famous for its affordable, innovative and beautiful jewelry. Watches, collar buttons, umbrella fittings and countless other accessories were made in our capital city, once dubbed the "Jewelry Capital of the World." Join long-time Jewelry District resident & historian Olin Thompson for a 2 hour walking tour and learn about the District's historic past and exciting future!
