About this Event
Hosted by Prototype, this experience invites boys (ages 5β17) to not only trade books, but also trade perspectives. Attendees are encouraged to read as many books as they can between now and the event, write short takeaways or summaries, and then join us to swap books and discuss how those stories impacted them.
Whether itβs fiction, nonfiction, comics, or memoirs, every book passed is a chance to challenge the old narrative and build your own.
π₯ What to Expect:
- A book exchange that challenges stereotypes and sparks confidence
- Open discussion circles to share what each book taught you
- A space for boys to express their voices, ideas, and leadership
- A special way to celebrate literacy, self-expression, and connection
- Great coffee, food, and vibes at Kuumba Coffee (please support the shop!)
π How to Prepare:
- Bring 1β3 books youβre ready to part with
- Include a short written summary or reflection of each one (1β2 paragraphs is fine!)
- Be ready to swap, speak, and gain new friendships
βπ½ Why It Matters:
At Prototype, we believe young Black boys are the blueprint, not the stereotype. Through literacy, exposure, and empowerment, weβre helping young black boys switch up the narratives about themselves, and to BE THE PROTOTYPE!
