PROTEST WORKS is a window installation made up of protest signs by Patricia Dahlman and Michael Dal Cerro, along with a video loop of photographs of demonstrations in Washington, DC, New York City, Newark, Elizabeth, and Rutherford, NJ.

(Exhibition statement by the artists)
In November 2024 the United States elected a convicted criminal and an aspiring authoritarian to become the President of the United States. A spineless, cowardly, collaborationist Republican Congress supports this deranged fascist. Dubious, unqualified cabinet officials were appointed to destroy the departments they lead. The Supreme Court strengthens Trump’s dictatorial powers while the lower courts are overwhelmed by illegal executive orders. Some universities, major law firms and corporations, like Apple, Meta and Amazon have capitulated. The White House uses DOGE, led by Elon Musk to dismantle foreign aid and fire government workers.
One way to fight back is for the people to get out into the streets. This will let our representatives, the media and the world know that we do not support Trump’s chaos, cruelty and corruption. The protest signs in this exhibition were used in various street demonstrations: Tesla Takedown, No Kings, Stop Delaney Hall, Drop the Charges Against Representative McIver, John Lewis ‘Good Trouble” Day of Protest, and Stop ICE Detention Center Expansion in Elizabeth.
Protest works! The Tesla Takedown protests hurt Elon Musk’s business all over the world and Musk had to leave his position at the White House to try to rescue Tesla and his other businesses. The ‘Stop ICE Detention Center Expansion’ in Elizabeth was a success and the local representatives decided not to use the building, that was a former jail, to be another jail or ICE Detention Center. The building will be used as a community center and for other businesses that will benefit the community.
Art is about communication. These signs represent an elemental form of communication, the people demanding their rights.

We are also featuring the transformative work of Sunil Garg, an artist who shapes light itself into dynamic, immersive sculptures. Garg’s installations blend natural and computer-driven illumination to engage viewers in themes of environmental impact, colonialism, and consumerism. His work, rooted in early training and experiences in India, merges scientific knowledge, environmental awareness, and avant-garde performance, creating pieces where light transcends material, becoming a vehicle for reflection and critical insight.
The Newark Wetlands Project an installation by Amanda Thackray (245 Halsey Street)
The Newark Wetlands Project is a community-centered collaborative project that reimagines Newark’s past as a marshland while fostering dialogue about ecological preservation and urban resilience. Participants will collaboratively build a layered immersive paper wildscape, creating a dynamic environment that reflects on the city’s natural history and collective creativity.
Many thanks to RBH Group for allowing us to activate a few of their fabulous spaces with ART!
