Sharp shooters bait the deer and position themselves in trees; when unsuspecting deer come out for their food traps, they are shot to death.
Since 2008, a total of 3,442 deer, including 2,184 unborn deer, have been killed by County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr.
Essex County’s current deer “culling” program can no longer be dominated by a few closed minded officials and special interests groups. DiVincenzo, needs to revisit his killing methods and use humane deer management methods. Using the same approach for over a decade isn’t working and will never work.
Scientists from a major University have critiqued the Essex County deer killing program and declared its current reports and data as scientifically indefensible.
The key is to manage the conflicts, not the deer. Managing deer leads to increased fertility because there’s less competition for food and land.
Essex County residents are opposed to DiVincenzo’s annual deer killing programs and are demanding an end to killing the deer in Essex County.
Please contact DiVincenzo and these two commissioners. Tell them to stop wasting taxpayer money. The $1 million plus, already spent over the years to K*ll the deer should be invested in a nonlethal deer program such as surgical sterilization, which would have paid for itself by now.
