Protecting Yourself Against Fraud and Scams
Scammers’ techniques and methods to target victims are constantly evolving based on new technology and consumer trends. Knowledge is your best defense to protect your finances and personal information. In this session, we will cover the most common types of scams, how to identify them, and the persuasive tactics criminals often use so you can spot fraud attempts and protect yourself.
Speaker:
Phil Chin is a Community Volunteer for AARP Maine. After a career as a radio news writer, editor and producer in New York City, Phil retired to Maine and became involved with many community organizations. Phil began his volunteer work with AARP in 2006 where he became an instructor for AARP's safe driving program. His interests led him to the AARP Fraud Watch Network where he became lead spokeperson for fraud prevention in Maine. Phil has been instrumental in establishing the AARP Maine Speakers Bureau and together with other colleagues, hosts a monthly fraud watch series dedicated to spreading awareness of current scams and how best to avoid falling victim.
