The Amazon is nearing a tipping point after which the rainforest will be lost with profound implications for global climate and biodiversity
About this Event

Our Amazonía in Crisis event will be taking place 2 June, 2023 from 6pm at London's National Liberal Club, Whitehall Place, SW1A 2HE.

At the event we will be discussing environmental concerns in the context of the Amazon Rainforest and Orinoco River.

This crisis is a matter of international concern that affects all of us. The Amazon is nearing a tipping point after which the rainforest would be lost with profound implications for global climate & biodiversity.

Our talk in London will be led by three distinguished Venezuelan speakers and chaired by Senior Risk & Decarbonisation analyst Henry Williams.

The confirmed speakers are:

• Katherine Hasegawa (Ideas for Venezuela)

• Dr Francoise Cabada-Blanco (University of Portsmouth)

• Kukuy (Indigenous Pemón)

As you may already be aware, the Amazon rainforest is the lungs of our planet, and the Orinoco River that runs through it ends at a delta that washes into the Caribbean Sea.

The crisis in the Amazon affects the lives of the local tribespeople who call the Amazon their home and use the Orinoco for drinking water, it affects the survival of the Amazon's unique flora and fauna and the survival of the aquatic creatures who have made the Orinoco River and the Caribbean Sea their home.

Our event is intended to shed much needed light on these issues and offer solutions to end this crisis.
