About this Event
As the 10th anniversary of the Exide Battery Recycling Plant's closure approaches, members of the Prospering backyards team will discuss the alternative method to reducing lead in the contaminated soils impacted by Exide, ongoing challenges, and the continued fight for environmental justice in affected communities.
This program is in conjunction with SHG’s Sinks: Places We Call Home exhibition at the Luckman Gallery at Cal State Los Angeles. Sinks highlights the environmental disparities created by manufacturing sites in two communities located near Self Help Graphics & Art (SHG): Exide Battery plant in Vernon and the former Athens Tank Farm (Exxon/Mobil Oil Corporation) in Willowbrook. The exhibition is part of the Getty PST Art: Art and Science initiative.
