Saturday 11th May
10am - 12pm - Cave Goblin - Drake von Trapp
Known for his propensity for moving like a cave goblin who learned to belly dance, Drake teaches the fundamentals of his unique “cave goblin” grunge style of fusion. This class will explore counterintuitive movement pathways, creative floorwork, and body conditioning to unlock the goblin within
Alternative movement options will be offered to floor work.
12pm-1pm - lunch break
1pm - 3pm - Dance of the Furies - Fuchsia

Come be a goddess of vengeance! The Furies: Allecto (unceasing in anger), Tisiphone (avenger of murder) and Megaera (jealous), will be our inspiration and characters for this workshop as we delve into presenting strong, kickass and righteous rage in dance (it's fun, I promise!)
Anger can be cold, frosty, controlled and purposeful. It can be firey, passionate, in-the-moment. And it can be wild, unthinking and animalistic. We'll explore all three through some powerful combos, expressive performance tools (of course!) And staging to release our badass selves.

3:30pm - 5:30pm - Stage Presence - Drake von Trapp
In this workshop, we explore how to reconcile with inner conflicts to be our most authentic and vulnerable onstage. Movement and intellectual exercises will be led to help identify sources of presence, develop a relationship with the audience, and practice self-forgiveness.
This workshop is a hybrid of lecture and movement

Dynamism and contrast are essential to creating visual texture in a performance. Using a variety of combinations, this workshop explores the juxtaposition of sinuous, grounded belly dance technique with explosive, high-impact movement qualities.

TEACHERS
Drake von Trapp is a Chicago-based interdisciplinary belly dance researcher and performer, recognized for his pioneering research about male belly dancers in the US. Drake's educational journey led him to acquire both a BA and MA in Dance from Texas Woman’s University, along with a post-master’s in Multicultural Women’s and Gender Studies. His insights into the role of men and masculinity have sparked thoughtful discussions around gender, femmephobia, and Orientalism. When he’s not hitting the books, Drake currently tours internationally with Pomegranate Studios as a principal cast member, and co-owns Arcanum World Dance Studio with his dance and life partner, Kamrah.
Fuchsia is an international teacher and performer based in the UK. She believes in giving dancers the tools they need to develop and progress in their own individual dances.
She believes everyone has their own unique expression and movement and loves helping people to unlock this. She is known for her friendly and adaptable style, providing a safe space to experiment and explore our dance.
Fuchsia is a level 2 Exercise to Music Instructor and qualified meditation teacher. She studied Drama and Creative Writing to degree/masters level and these disciplines influence her approach to dance. In belly dance Fuchsia has studied extensively with a number of teachers, including her mentor Ariellah. In addition she has passed the following belly dance certificates ;
