About this Event

Propogation Workshop - Growing Trees from Cuttings

Curious about growing your own trees? Join us for a hands-on workshop at Baltimore Free Farm where we’ll explore the art and science of propagating trees from cuttings. A highly accessible, low-cost way to grow new plants and share abundance!

We will focus primarily on fig and elderberry, with additional demonstrations on dogwood and pussy willow. You’ll learn when and how to take cuttings, what conditions support successful rooting, and how to care for your plants once you bring them home.

We'll cover:

  • How propagation by cuttings works
  • Other techniques and their advantages
  • Selecting healthy plant material
  • Step-by-step cutting and planting techniques
  • Seasonal timing and care tips
  • How to take care of your cuttings at home

Timeline:
10 - 10:45 // intro & technique discussion
10:45 - 11:30 // taking cuttings from the various plants
11:30 - 12:15 // potting up cuttings
12:15 - 12:30 // wrap up & questions

Come ready to learn, get a little dirty, and leave with several cuttings and the confidence to grow your own trees.
