About this Event
Welcome to the event Promoting School Attendance: Questions for Policy, Research, and Practice at the University of Strathclyde's Technology and Innovation Centre!
Join us on Fri Sep 20 2024 at 09:30 AM to discuss the results of the the Nuffield Foundation funded project "Understanding school attendance, education and labour market outcomes" led by Dr. Markus Klein (PI) and Prof. Edward Sosu (Co-I).
The project investigates the impact of school absenteeism on educational attainment and labour market outcomes, and the factors that can mitigate the negative effects of absence. We look in more depth at the consequences of different types of absenteeism for educational attainment and labour market outcomes and whether certain psychosocial (internalising/prosocial behaviour, self-esteem), behavioural (externalising and risky behaviours), and aspirational (education and work) dispositions mediate the link between school absenteeism and educational and labour market outcomes. We will discuss how these issues vary by socioeconomic status, gender, and ethnicity.
This in-person event will bring together researchers, practitioners, parent organisations, and educational authorities to share insights and strategies for promoting school attendance.
Organising team: Dr Markus Klein, Prof Edward Sosu, Dr Olga Rotar, Fiona Wager (Scottish Government), Jacqui Ward (Education Scotland).
