PROMISE Youth & Sports Academy: SE Michigan Youth Book Club

Chiquita Jackson Enterprise Corp is proud to present the PROMISE Youth & Sports Academy Southeast Michigan Book Club. In special partnership with Michigan Humanities, we are bringing young readers together to explore stories of adventure, identity, and courage.

This event is completely free and open to the public. We invite youth of all reading levels to join us for engaging discussions and community building.

• Cost: FREE

We will be hosting two simultaneous discussion groups based on age and interest:

1. For Elementary Aged Youth (Grades 1-4)

• Book: The Last Firehawk: The Ember Stone by Katrina Charman
• The Journey: A fast-paced fantasy adventure featuring Tag the owl and his friends on a quest to save their world. Perfect for newly independent readers!

2. For Teens & Young Adults

• Book: Firekeeper’s Daughter by Angeline Boulley
• The Journey: A powerful thriller set in Michigan about a biracial, unenrolled Ojibwe member who goes undercover to save her community.
• This selection is featured in partnership with Michigan Humanities.

• Guided Discussions: Interactive sessions led by mentors to help youth connect book themes to real-world leadership.
• Safe Space: A welcoming environment to share perspectives and meet new friends in Southeast Michigan.
• Empowerment: Learn how literacy and leadership go hand-in-hand through our Academy's mission.

While this event is free, RSVPs are required via Eventbrite to ensure we have enough space and materials for all participants.
