🎥 Dokument The Cost of Growth (2025, 93 min) rozkrývá skutečné náklady evropského příběhu o růstu a zelené transformaci. Ukazuje, že za sliby prosperity a udržitelnosti se často skrývají vykořisťující systémy, které ničí krajinu, oslabují demokracii a negativně dopadají především na místní komunity.
Film propojuje příběhy odporu proti těžbě a „zeleným“ megaprojektům v Srbsku, Itálii a Sápmi a odhaluje, jak se část evropské ekologické politiky opírá o stejnou logiku jako fosilní ekonomika — jen v nových barvách.
Zatímco kritici Green Dealu z řad krajní pravice varují, že zelená transformace Evropu ekonomicky zničí, The Cost of Growth přináší jinou, podstatně hlubší kritiku: problém není v tom, že by byla příliš radikální, ale v tom, že není dost radikální. Že jde ruku v ruce s kapitálem a odmítá zpochybnit samotnou logiku růstu.
Film natočili aktivistky Lena Hartog a Anuna De Wever, jedna z nejvýraznějších představitelek hnutí Fridays for Future v Belgii. Ve filmu vystupují významní představitelé nerůstového hnutí jako Jason Hickel, klimatická aktivistka Greta Thunberg, odborník na anti-imperialismus Vijay Prashad a mnoho dalších.

🎥 The documentary The Cost of Growth (2025, 93 min) exposes the real costs behind the European story of economic growth and the green transition. It shows that behind promises of prosperity and sustainability there are often exploitative systems that devastate landscapes, weaken democracy, and disproportionately harm local communities.
The film weaves together stories of resistance against mining projects and “green” megaprojects in Serbia, Italy, and Sápmi, revealing how parts of European environmental policy rely on the same logic as the fossil fuel economy — just dressed in new colors. So-called green capitalism presents itself as a solution, but continues to operate against people and nature.
While far-right critics of the Green Deal warn that the green transition will economically destroy Europe, The Cost of Growth offers a very different, and much deeper, critique: the problem is not that the transition is too radical, but that it is not radical enough. It goes hand in hand with capital and refuses to challenge the very logic of economic growth itself.
The film was made by activists Lena Hartog and Anuna De Wever, one of the most prominent figures of the Fridays for Future movement in Belgium. It features leading voices of the degrowth movement such as Jason Hickel, climate activist Greta Thunberg, anti-imperialist scholar Vijay Prashad, and many others.

💬 The screening will be followed by a facilitated discussion on how these stories relate to us in the Czech Republic: where the “cost of growth” is hidden here, who pays it, and what alternatives we have.
