Explore the intersection of forests & water through hands-on learning
Join us for an interactive, engaging professional development workshop designed for both formal and non-formal educators interested in environmental education. This combined Project Learning Tree (PLT) and Project WET (Water Education Today) training will immerse participants in activities that highlight the powerful connection between forest and aquatic ecosystems—right where the Ozark woodlands meet the shores of Lake Fayetteville.
Participants will gain access to multiple activity guides aligned with state and national education standards, featuring dozens of hands-on lessons for K–8 (PLT) and K–12 (WET) learners. While the workshop will focus on grades 3–6, modifications will be offered for younger and older age groups.
Whether you teach indoors or outdoors, this experience is designed to strengthen your toolkit with fun, meaningful, and easy-to-implement activities that inspire environmental awareness and stewardship.

Presenter Team
Liz Hill - Liz holds a B.S. in Conservation & Resource Studies from UC Berkeley and a Master of Education with a focus on Mindfulness and Nature from Westminster College. With over 20 years of environmental and outdoor education experience in the Ozarks and three years in Montessori education, Liz brings deep expertise and passion to the field. She is trained as a facilitator in both Project Learning Tree and Project WET, and was recently named the Arkansas Environmental Education Association’s 2025 Outstanding Non-Formal Educator of the Year.
Sophia Stephenson - Executive Director, Arkansas Environmental Education Association (AEEA)Sophia has dedicated nearly 20 years to environmental education, working in nature centers, educational farms, and local government specializing in conservation and waste reduction. She serves as the Arkansas State Coordinator for Project WET and is a member of the Arkansas PLT Steering Committee. Sophia is trained as a facilitator for both programs and actively contributes to the North American Association for Environmental Education’s Affiliate Network.

About Ozark Natural Science Center
ONSC offers a unique, immersion-based approach to learning about nature and the natural sciences. Students visit us for authentic science learning experiences that are correlated with national and state science learning standards and provide in-depth education in biology, ecology, geology, social studies, and nature art – all while students have fun hiking and experiencing nature. Camp activities include hikes, team-building, games, art, and small-group activities.
Ticket Refund Policy
Refunds up to 1 week before the event: Tickets are refundable minus any applicable fees (processing, administrative, etc.) until 7 days before the event.
Refunds within 1 week of the event: For refund requests made less than 7 days prior to the event, a 50% refund will be given.
No refunds within 24 hours of the event: Refund requests made within 24 hours of the event are not permitted, except in exceptional circumstances and only with approval from ONSC administration.
*Please note that all refund requests must be submitted in writing to [email protected]. Refunds will be processed within 7-10 business days.
