About this Event
The Watch Hill Conservancy participates in Project Limulus, which is run by Sacred Heart University. The project has been tracking horseshoe crab populations in southern New England for decades. This year is Napatree’s 18th year participating!
Surveys are conducted during the high tide of new and full moons during June and July, as this time is when horseshoe crabs are most likely to come ashore to spawn.
While we welcome everyone to join us, please be advised the survey includes two miles of walking, often in about 1 ft of water. The surveys can last anywhere from 2 hours to 4 hours depending on the number of horseshoe crabs along the shore. We can see 0 or 1,000!
We also offer two Family Horseshoe Crab Walks that are much more suitable for young children. They are on Saturday, May 26th at 10:00 AM and Sunday, June 22nd at 9:30 AM.
