About this Event

Profitable Hospitality is a 5 hour workshop provided by Indigenous Tourism BC and Caroline Bagnall, Connect Hospitality Strategies. It is designed for supervisors and managers with a desire to develop professionally. It is ideal for business operators wanting to improve profit margins and exceed guest expectations. This workshop includes three key areas of food service operations; building top line revenues, forecasting labour costs, and theft prevention.

Course Content:

Building Top Line Revenues - A guest-centered approach to increasing top line revenues through up-selling tools, exploring suggestive selling techniques, looking at industry trends, identifying your audience, and how to develop a successful in-house sales promotion.

Forecast the Cost of a Staff Schedule - Group-based activities are used to explore how to create staffing schedule thatmaximizes productivity and make sure your guests are being taken care of. Some concepts looked at will be fixed vs variable labour, the information (building blocks) you need to gather and where you’ll find it, and Provincial Labour Standards.

Prevent Restaurant Theft - Participants will identify items of value in their organization and who has access. This will be followed up by a group discussion for control measures and sharing best practices.

This Workshop is fully funded by ITBC's Indigenous Tourism Training Initiative (ITTI). Eligibility includes:

  • Indigenous people in BC
  • Indigenous tourism businesses (51%+ Indigenous ownership), and employees of
  • Indigenous entrepreneurs
  • First Nations communities
  • First Nations businesses (51%+ First Nations ownership), and employees of
  • ITBC Stakeholders, and employees of
