Aims and Objectives:

Provide an update on infective endocarditis (IE) as a disease and the use of antibiotic prophylaxis of invasive dental procedures for IE prevention.

Review changes in the guidance provided to clinicians about IE prevention.

Review new evidence establishng the link between invasive dental procedures and IE, and the efficacy, safety and cost efffectiveness of antibiotic prophylaxis.

Provide a strategy for realistic, person centrered care of patients at increased risk
