An anthropologist with a specialisation in the political and social meanings of Islamic practice in Indonesia, Professor Millie’s work includes the 2017 Hearing Allah’s Call: Preaching and Performance in Indonesian Islam (Cornell University Press), Hasan Mustapa: Ethnicity and Islam in Indonesia (Monash University Press, 2017), and Splashed by the Saint: Ritual Reading and Islamic Sanctity in West Java (KITLV Press, 2009).
