From Gen X to Next Gen Sequencing
A brief history of the evolution of DNA sequencing technologies and their impact, and how drinking beer in Liverpool and Salford is influencing my future research plans.
About Professor Ian Gooodhead
Ian is a Professor in Microbial Genomics for the School of Science, Engineering and Environment at the University of Salford. Throughout his career Ian has facilitated the adoption of DNA sequencing technologies in both the wet-lab and computational biology settings. His research mainly focuses on supporting research into infectious diseases, but has included work into humans, primates, cancer and yeasts.
Recently, he has been focused on supporting research as Associate Dean – Research and Innovation, but he maintains an interest in capacity building in low-middle income settings, supporting studies into emerging and neglected tropical diseases and vector-borne disease, which has included capacity building for COVID response and tracking the spread of tick-borne diseases in Uganda.
Event Timings
Registration is from 5.30pm with the lecture starting promptly at 6pm.
We will also be hosting a drinks reception following the lecture which will finish at 8pm.
