Event Length: 6pm - 8pm, on Saturday September 27thJoin us for a series for visual artists, covering all kinds of topics pertinent to career paths and goals, finding inspiration, building portfolios, approaching galleries and so much more. In this iteration of this free workshop, you are invited to learn about how to create your own, functioning, art studio at home and if that's the best path for you in your creative journey.
Topic: Building a home studio or working in a community studio - what's a better path for you?
You've taken classes at your local community art center and you think it's time to branch out and build your own studio at home. Though it may seem easy enough to "claim" a corner in your home for your creativity, depending on your medium, certain considerations may need to be addressed, such as water source, lighting, recycling, and much more. Your speaker will take you through everything you could and should consider if you are interested in creating a clay studio in your home. We'll also discuss how community studios can be a valuable resource for your creative needs. Though many of the topics covered will be specific to clay/ceramics, artists from all fields are welcome to attend and lend your insight and input. This is a free event but we welcome cash donations to help cover the hors d’oeuvres provided. Guests will have ample time to ask questions and request future topics to be covered.
We welcome the following speakers/artists this evening:
Deb Balestreri- Owner of Corgi Clay LLC and Corgi Clay Art Center LLC. Deb has been a working artist for over two decades in the field of ceramics. She has taught all skill levels from public school through academia and professionally on her own in her home studio and various art centers.
Lawton Clites - Owner of Bad Truck Pottery located in Fredericksburg VA. Lawton has been in clay for over 16 years, was a former studio technician at Liberty Town Arts Workshop and then opened his own teaching and production studio in 2019.
Age Limitations: Ages 16 through adult. This is a great event to attend as a high school senior interested in a visual arts degree or a college student coming out with a BA or BFA in the arts, or anyone interested in the arts or artists speaking about their work!
