Professional Learning Event: Decoding Cryptocurrency Valuation

Join us to explore a structured approach to valuing cryptoassets, based on the CFA Institute’s Valuation of Cryptoassets: A Guide for Investment Professionals. It begins with an overview of the cryptocurrency landscape and its relevance to institutional investors, before examining the unique valuation challenges posed by cryptoassets.
The core of the session focuses on key valuation frameworks applied to different types of cryptoassets—Bitcoin, Ethereum, and decentralized applications (dApps). Models covered include total addressable market, cost of production, stock-to-flow, Metcalfe’s Law, discounted cash flow (DCF), and relative valuation.
Alongside the content from the guide, we will share practical observations on how these models are used—or adapted—in the industry today. Participants will gain insights into how on-chain metrics, tokenomics, and usage data can inform investment analysis.

Co-Founder & CIO, Soberin
Don is the Co-Founder and Chief Investment Officer at Soberin, a company focused on research and strategy development in digital asset markets. He began exploring the cryptocurrency market in 2016, applying his background in mathematics and computer programming to analyze and develop his own investment approaches.
Prior to founding Soberin, Don worked in quantitative research at WorldQuant, a U.S.-based quantitative trading firm, where he was involved in developing algorithmic trading strategies across global equities and futures markets. He also has personal investment experience in the Stock Exchange of Thailand, where he applies a hybrid approach that combines both fundamental and technical analysis.
Don holds a Master’s degree in Financial Economics from the University of Oxford and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Imperial College London.

Narut is the Chief Researcher at Soberin, a company focused on research and strategy development in digital asset markets. He entered the cryptocurrency space in 2022, focusing on research in decentralized finance at a UK-based blockchain company. Before moving into crypto, he gained extensive experience in traditional finance, working in quantitative finance and wealth management across firms in both Thailand and the U.S.
With a background spanning computer engineering, finance, and quantitative methods, Narut brings a multidisciplinary perspective to blockchain, particularly in understanding how it can address long-standing inefficiencies in traditional financial systems.
He holds a Master’s degree in Financial Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from Chulalongkorn University.
