About this Event

The Scottish Schools Pipes and Drums Trust and The National Piping Centre welcome piping and drumming instructors from across the country to this day of discussion and learning.

Starting the day at the National Piping Centre in Glasgow, then heading over to the Theatre Royal, this day of conference and networking will look at major issues affecting piping and drumming teaching today.
Seminars on the day will cover:

  • SQA Assessment / How to help your pupils pass SQA exams
  • Prevention of Hearing Loss
  • Techniques and games to encourage musicality and music-making
  • Injury Prevention in piping & drumming
  • Building a band ethos
  • Fundraising strategy
  • Pathways & opportunities for young learners during and post-school
  • Women in Piping and Drumming

and a lot more!

Open to anyone teaching piping and drumming, there are ticket tarrifs for tutors employed by schools and local authorities and those that are freelance.

Please bring along your chanters and sticks/pads as there may be some practical elements to the day.

Tea, coffee and a light lunch is provided on the day, so please let us know any dietary requirements youhave so we can cater for you.

The registrations are £75 for salaried instructors. For freelance instructors it is £5 to register, which helps cover the cost of the lunch.

The formal part of the day will end around 4.30pm. We are inviting you to join us for drinks and networking at The National Piping Centre to chat through the day of seminars in an informal setting until around 6pm.

More information will be added here as speakers are confirmed, so book your tickets now for this thought-provoking and motivating day of workshops.

Funding to support attendance

There is external funding available for self-employed tutors who want to come to the Forum but are worried about travel costs and loss of earnings.

The YMI CPD Fund is managed by Scottish Music Centre on behalf of Youth Music Initiative. It’s intended to support individuals and organisations who work with children and young people on out-of-school music projects.
