A fascinating talk exploring the development of SSRIs and drawing parallels between their effects and those of psychedelics.About this Event
OPS is delighted to invite a faculty member of the University to kick off the term!
Phil Cowen is Professor of Psychopharmacology at the University of Oxford. His research focuses on the biochemical changes that are associated with depression and how drugs work to alleviate the symptoms that depressed patients experience. This talk will revisit how SSRIs were developed from the original monoamine re-uptake inhibitors, their benefits and risk and how they work neuropsychologically – comparing and contrasting them with the effects of psychedelics.
