Making Bucket Drums
Drumming is the heartbeat of the Procession and if you are looking to add to the pulse, this class for making a 5 gallon bucket into a drum is for you! We will supply the buckets, paint, rope, drumsticks, fabric and decorations. You supply the imagination to create your own decorative instrument. You should be able to complete your drum in one session. You’re welcome to bring your own decorative elements as well.
All children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult (accompanying adults not making a drum do not have to pay for the class).
Process:
- Remove handle from bucket
- Sand bottom of the bucket smooth
- Drill a hole in both sides of the bucket for strapping
- [Some buckets will already be sanded and drilled; some are un-sanded and un-drilled for those comfortable with power tools]
- Use fabric, paint or other materials to decorate your drum
- Insert rope strapping into drilled holes and knot the rope inside the drum
- Adjust the rope strapping so that the drum hangs comfortably over your shoulder and the drum hangs at your side
- You are ready to drum!
