Join guest tutor and print-maker Cath Brooke on this taster workshop which will introduce you to the print process of monoprint.
Monoprint is one of the basic families of printmaking processes – a way of producing unique, one-off prints by rolling ink onto a plastic plate surface. Ink can be added or wiped off in certain areas, and a print is then taken from the plate. Multiple plates can be printed in register to achieve exciting layered compositions. It’s a great technique for those who love painterly techniques and textures however its versatility also means that it works really well with papercut stencils meaning that those with a liking for more graphic based imagery can find something in it to enjoy too – the possibilities are endless!
Learners will experiment with using inks, paintbrushes, stencils and a printing press to produce one off ‘mono’ prints which have a colourful, playful quality.
Taster sessions are designed for people who have little or no prior knowledge or experience of printmaking but are also great for those who want to a refresher of a particular technique. Some people might find it easier to use an image as a basis to work from, rather than starting from scratch. If you do bring images to work from, note that you will be working on plates around A5 size. Alternatively, don’t bring anything with you and just experiment with making marks and seeing what happens!
Experience level
No previous experience is needed for this course. Beginners are welcome, along with those who need a refresher.
