Private antique jewellery handling session with specialist Lucinda Orr: Art in miniature – intaglios and cameos through the ages
About this Event

Mankind has been carving into stone, gems, shells and other materials for seals of authority and for plain adornment for millennia. Whether it is intaglio carving, where the design remains below the surface, or cameo carvings in relief, the depictions can be anything from bust portraits to animals, to shields – the only constraint being if it can fit on the surface! In this handling session, we will explore the different techniques and how across different societies, cameos and intaglios have been used to project power, intellect, and beauty.

Lucinda Orr is an enthusiastic and knowledgeable barrister and antique expert. It is a true pleasure to have herself present in the gallery. The numbers of tickets are extremely limited. First come first served.

2022 SPRING EXHIBITION - FOUR ANCIENT BEAUTIES, May 12 - June 30, 2022

For the first time, an antique gallery brings a selected collection of ancient objects demonstrating the female form. Ranging from the Geologic Period to the Chinese Tang dynasty (618-907 CE), these female figures do not merely reflect feminine energy and elegance, but they also highlight the cultural exchange of fashion between the East and the West. The four sculptures are accompanied by paintings and other works showcasing the female form. A series of special in-person events with female themes will take place alongside the exhibition at the gallery.
