Dr. James Voelz is currently working on a book designed to teach hermeneutics to interested laypeople in a parish setting. This workshop will present this material to pastors for feedback and discussion on its propriety for parishioners. Laypeople also are welcome to attend. After the course, pastors will have material to use as a basis for a course in interpreting the Bible that is suitable for their flock.
PRESENTER: Dr. James Voelz, Graduate Professor of Exegetical Theology and the
Dr. Jack Dean Kingsbury Professor of New Testament Theology at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis
Dr. James Voelz's areas of focus are the Greek language, hermeneutics (theory of interpretation) and the Synoptic Gospels. He also has taught the Pauline epistles and Acts of the Apostles. He served as an adjunct faculty member of Kenrick Seminary, the Roman Catholic diocesan seminary in St. Louis (2009–14) and was coordinator of the Institute of Theology at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Des Peres, Mo. (2005–15), at which he also taught a Sunday morning Bible class for 24 years.
