About this Event
Firearm safety training consists of at least 12 hours of instruction in safe handling of firearms, which includes firing on a rifle range, hunter responsibility, a field trip for teaching commonly-accepted principles of safety in hunting, and providing experience in the handling of all types of common hunting firearms.
Upon completion of this course, a youth under 16 years of age receives a certificate that is used in lieu of a license to hunt small game. This certificate must also be presented if the youth wishes to obtain a big game hunting license.
This course is also open to adults. Participation in the course satisfies adult hunting certificate requirements of other states.
Participation: 100% attendance is required to receive certification, no exceptions. Any instance of negative behavior will result in immediate removal from the program.

Instruction: Instruction provided by Certified Minnesota DNR Firearm Safety Instructors.
Please note: This course takes place for six (6) classroom sessions, one (1) field day and one (1) written examination day over three (3) weeks . We will meet for the classroom sessions and written examination day from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and the field day from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. You must attend all six (6) classroom sessions, one (1) field day and one (1) written examination day to receive a certificate of completion.
