Prime Timers 1st Monday: Ancient Fiber Arts with Debora M.Monday, October 6th | 2:00PM - 4:00PM | Elgin Recreation Center Lobby
FREE | Ages 55+ | Pre-Registration Encouraged
Step back in time and get hands-on with ancient threads! In this beginner-friendly workshop, fiber artist Debora M. will guide you through a fascinating demonstration of historical fiber arts techniques—from naalbinding and lucet cordmaking to fingerloop braiding and inkleloom weaving. While some tools may look modern, the skills and stories behind them date back centuries. You’ll learn how these techniques were used across different cultures and time periods, see examples in action, and even try a few stitches yourself using simple tools and starter projects provided during class. No prior experience required—just curiosity and a willingness to try something new. This workshop blends hands-on discovery with a bit of history and a lot of fun.
