On the Verge: Women and Madness
Delving into many facets of the female psyche, Leela looks potently into the ways in which female desire has often been depicted as mad. Featuring texts of female poets about motherhood, isolation, heartbreak, and ultimately inner transformation the evening includes works by Purcell, Amy Beth Kirsten, Poulenc, Bolcom, Hoiby, and Strauss along with the world premiere of the “Moon and the Yew Tree” by Bruce Broughton.
