Priit Salusoo is a freelance Estonian artist who began his career 23 years ago as a tattoo artist. He was one of the first in Estonia to break into the wider European market, earning numerous awards along the way.
In 2002, he attempted to gain admission to the Estonian National Art Institute (then ERKI), but was rejected because he was not seen as having a future as an artist. Disappointed yet determined, he decided to pursue his artistic development independently, dedicating himself fully to drawing and later to painting.
He made his first attempts at painting in 2011, and by October 2013, he held his first solo exhibition titled "Art is Dark / Dark is Art" at Bacbone Tattoo Gallery in Tartu.
Over the years, Salusoo has experimented with various techniques and styles, blending them together. According to him, the world of art is exciting, and continuous learning is endless. "I am constantly changing, my thinking evolves, and so does my art. I paint mostly intuitively and emotionally. I can't always explain why I did something a certain way. Sometimes I look at my paintings and wonder how I managed to create them technically at that moment..."
He started drawing at a very early age, gifted with a natural talent. However, he hasn't been drawing consistently throughout his life; it has been a long journey of development and learning over many years.
"'City Girl' is Priit Salusoo's third solo exhibition. The series was born spontaneously from a single painting titled 'City Girl,' which inspired the artist to create a series around it. Gradually, this series took on a life of its own.
The works focus on women in their profound beauty, each one unique and special. These are acrylic paintings that feature a mix of improvisation—combining strong, structural elements with smooth, soft textures.
