With a repertoire that spans a rich tapestry of genres and eras, the performance will feature both stirring anthems and intimate ballads, each carefully selected to honor the achievements and voices of women. Hear music from Nina Simone, Chappell Roan, and Alicia Keys, from shows like The Color Purple and Hamilton, plus the world premier of “Make Ready Your Beauty,” by noted composer Joan Szymko. Pride Chorus Houston is proud to have commissioned this piece. Inspired by the poetry of Elsa Gidlow, the American poet best known for writing On a Grey Thread (1923), the first volume of openly lesbian love poetry published in North America.
