On December 21st 1910, just four days before Christmas, an underground explosion at the Hulton Colliery took the lives of 344 local men and boys. It became known as the Pretoria Disaster and it remains to this day the third largest UK mining tragedy. Mr Davies gives us a full and detailed account of the cause, event and aftermath and we walk into the woods to see the still visible ruins. The event lasts two hours and stout footwear is essential.
