Eating Disorder Awareness Iowa City meets on the last Monday of the month to discuss topics related to strengthening the process of recovery and establishing connections for support. Join the Facebook group for more updates and discussion.---
EDAIC is a group designed to provide support for people in the community who want to share their experiences in a safe environment with others who understand what it is like to live with an eating disorder. Treatment options for people with eating disorders are increasingly limited in Iowa, and most treatment options such as residential, partial, and outpatient programs can only be found out of state. Since a strong, supportive community is one of the most fundamental parts of maintaining recovery while in treatment, EDAIC is taking matters into its own hands and building a network of support so everyone can feel heard and understood while battling an oftentimes isolating mental illness.
EDAIC is NOT monitored by a healthcare professional and is organized monthly by Erin McCain, who is over four years into recovery and realized that the need for an understanding and empathetic meeting place for people experiencing eating disorders was a growing need in the area. Groups will be focused on creating a positive mindset and support network for members who need to talk to others who understand their struggles.
EDAIC meetings are a good place to come if you are in recovery or in need of support, if you are curious about learning how to help those who struggle with an eating disorder, if you are curious to learn more about what disordered behaviors are, if you have advice that has helped in your own journey, and if you have questions that others in the recovery process may be able to help with.
